Mothers Day is the special day of the year that your Mum can relax, put her feet up and have someone else take care of her, giving her cards and showering her with gifts. For all your Mother has done for you, there is just one day per year to say a real thanks.
There are lots of stories as to the origin of Mothers Day or Mothering Sunday as it is often called. One story goes that children that were servants in someone else’s house were allowed home for one day of the year to see their Mother, and this became known as ‘Mothers Day’. Another story goes that Christians who visited their local church would attend the biggest church, the Mother church, on one day of the year, and this activity was called going ‘Mothering’. As it was a Sunday, it became known as Mothering Sunday.
Whatever the real derivation of Mothers Day, it’s become a day to celebrate all of our Mothers. It’s usually a day that Mum gets the day off, Dad and the kids take over the everyday jobs, perhaps even cooking dinner or taking Mum out for a special meal at a restaurant.
Having a particular day of the year to prepare gifts for mum reminds her just how special she is to you. But thinking up gifts for her can be tricky. How can you choose the perfect mothers day gifts? It can be difficult. So if you’re stuck for Mothers day gift ideas, read on for some good advice!
Let’s start with what not to buy her. We’ve got a friend, let’s call him Steve and for each birthday, Christmas and well, Mothers Day too – he buys his wife (and mother of his children) a domestic gift. Last year it was a new washing machine, an iron or something like that. Don’t. You. Dare! Don’t be like Steve, reminding your Mother of the domestic servant that she’s been to you and the family all of her life! When you’re thinking of Mothers day gifts, think of something that will be a surprise, give your mum a gift that will really make her day.
If you’re stuck for ideas for gifts for mum, why not consider something cute from the Me to You Bear Figurine range? They’re the cute grey bears with blue noses that make your mum feel special. They tell your mum that you love her and they’re perfect as a little ornament that she can keep in her bedroom long after the other mothers day gifts like flowers and chocolates have died or been eaten!
Don’t worry if cute bears are not her thing, there’s the luxury rubber duck collection called Bud Ducks, with a wide range of styles to suit all tastes, great for the bath or the bedroom.
